What If It Works?

How will you know if something works if you never try?

On September 11, 2023, I thought what if…

As I spoke (very casually) to a handful of running retailers about my social media platform which was only 30 days in the making, I knew there was something. And over time, that “something” has gotten clearer and clearer.

So… I am taking the leap and seeing what happens.

This decision has been in the making for several months, but I haven’t felt “ready” (whatever that means anyway). But when are we ever fully ready for something new?

We aren’t.

In Atomic Habits, James Clear talks about motion versus action. We can plan and sketch out ideas we have all day long, but it will never happen if we never take action. A potential business idea or newfound hobby will cease to exist in 6 months or 5 years if you don’t just try. And yes… there are external factors that can contribute to the speed at which we take action on these new things but again, without action, nothing will happen.

Over the last year, I have had the opportunity to learn firsthand from Dan, Leslie, Hank, and all of the business owners I have connected with. I have seen what it takes to be an entrepreneur. To truly believe in what you are doing and the importance of it - whether it impacts three people, a city, or at a global level.

It is inspiring.

The passion and drive I have seen so many industry leaders have, has given me the confidence to make this jump.

So thank you.

I could write an entire novel of people I want to say thank you to, but I want to especially thank Dan, Leslie, and Hank for being a part of this journey. For supporting every decision I have made this last year. For giving me a safe space to learn, grow, and change. For providing an abundant amount of professional feedback that I will carry with me. For showing me what it takes to own and run a small business. And for always believing in me.

So what’s next?!

Like many of you have done or witnessed, I am starting my own business!

Over the last 10 months, my social media platform has grown steadily and provided opportunities and possibilities I still can’t fathom but it has also shown me what’s missing.

Consistent, authentic, and reliable community.

Through the community I have built online, and locally in Asheville, I plan on bridging the gap between the consumers and the running industry.

The sport of running is changing and has been changing for years, yet we have not been listening.

I would argue that this is the most accessible sport, yet we have made it the most inaccessible. All you have to do is put on a pair of shoes and socks and go out the door. Yet, millions (yes I said millions) of people don’t feel comfortable coming into running stores, showing up to group runs, or buying running products because of the way they look, their pace, etc.

So how do we make it truly accessible?

That is the question I will be seeking to answer as I turn to this next chapter in my life.

Cheers to new beginnings!
