The Achiever Training and Development Log Keeper
Now that we’ve introduced how to cultivate the achievement mindset, let’s walk you through the steps to implement this practice for yourself or your team.
Step 1: Download the PDF
This is both the easiest and most important step—download the PDF to get started.
Step 2: Self-Assessment
If you're using this tool for yourself, review each category and its related competencies. Then, honestly rate yourself on a scale from 1 to 10 for each competency.
Once you've rated yourself, consider your job role. How relevant is each core competency to your current position? Rate each competency’s relevance from 1 to 10.
If you rated yourself low in any area, focus on the specific line items where you need improvement.
Step 3: Calculate Your Scores
After you've completed your self-assessment, total your scores for each category. Then, divide the total by the number of core competencies in that section to get your average score. For example, if the “Creator” category has three competencies and your total score is 21, divide by 3 to get an average score of 7. Repeat this process for all six categories.
Highlight your top two categories, and focus on the specific line items where you’d like to improve.
Step 4: Set Your Goals
List the specific line items you want to work on. For example:
- Begin working regardless of circumstances.
- Reduce time spent on non-priorities.
- Recognize opportunities for positive outcomes in conflict situations.
Once you’ve identified your goals, define what success looks like for each one. Write it down in clear, specific terms.
Step 5: Work Backwards
Once you know what your desired outcome looks like, start planning backwards. For each goal, ask yourself daily or weekly: What is the one thing I could do, if done well, that would significantly impact this goal? Write down your thoughts and begin to block out dedicated time to work on these areas.

If you're implementing this for your team, start by completing the process for yourself first. This will help you clearly communicate your goals and set an example. You'll also take on the role of accountability partner for your team. Schedule weekly or bi-weekly meetings to review their progress and support them in achieving their goals.
